KITCHEN GARDEN NEWS

Growing our Kitchen-Garden

The new Kitchen-Garden program is going from strength to strength on a daily basis. Why? Student power, parent power, staff power, and community members. Our garden working bee in February was hugely successful in re-establishing the structure of the old veggie garden.  Cubic metres of rich organic soil have been wheelbarrowed to revitalise the raised garden beds; the worms in our farm are growing before student’s eyes; the potting shed is filling up with donations of seeds (thank you Woolworths shoppers for donating your promotional Discovery Garden mini seed pots); students are talking about sustainability; the Grade 3-4 classes are getting ready to organise a whole of school fruit and veg composting system; and, the garden shed door now opens and closes so student’s can access gardening equipment.

Donations required!

Any donations of the following items would be greatly appreciated:

  • veggie seedlings
  • seeds
  • shrub cuttings
  • herbs
  • fruit trees
  • trailingplants suitable for hanging baskets
  • bulbs
  • PLANTS!!

The renovation of the student’s kitchen is steadily continuing with more electrical and plumbing work happening this weekend. We have been enjoying each other’s stories of favourite foods to eat and I think we’ve all learned a lot about who shares in the cooking at home! Currently we are looking for donations of any working kitchen electrical appliances including stick mixers, electric mixers, freezer, microwave, pots\pans\woks no longer needed in the home, cooking utensils, storage containers, measuring jugs, mixing bowls (stainless steel or glass) and glass jars (preferably with lids).  PLEASE ….WE NEED KITCHEN CONTENTS !!

Abundance of gratitude again to all students, parents, staff and friends. A special thank you to Malcolm MacLeod, Adrian Sweet, Oscar Tinker, Brett Gordon, Alecia Groom, Alice and Ian Reed, Jill and Athol Street.

Kind regards,

Deb Morgan
