JAPANESE ROADSHOW
Representatives from the Japan Foundation Sydney have been touring Tasmania with a Japanese Cultural Road Show. All Grade 5 and 6 participated in activities typical of a Japanese Sports Days. Whilst individual running races are held at Sports Days in Japan, most events focus on team work and participation. Students enjoyed tama-ire (how many balls can be thrown into a hoop in 1 minute), dekapan (huge pants race) and oodama korogashi (big ball roll relay).
All Grade 4 students participated in the second workshop to learn a Japanese festival dance. Yosakoi dance competition is held in Kochi Prefecture and has over 19,000 participants each Summer. Students held Naruko clappers and followed Yumi Sensei (Japanese Language Assistant to Tasmania) to learn the dance moves.
