From the Principal

The past two weeks have been very busy and you may have some very tired little people at home this week! We have officially hit “hump week’ of Term four and are looking forward to another productive five weeks of 2018.

Early Childhood Swim Fun was a huge success this week and all students did an awesome job, both in the pool and becoming increasingly more independent and organised.  A big thank you to the parents who washed, dried and organised their children’s swim gear each night and in time for the next lesson.

Grade 6 Camp went off without a hitch last week, and I was overwhelmed with how respectful, courteous and helpful all our Grade 6 students were away from home. The facilities and environment at Spring Beach were by far one of the best camps I have ever been on, and I must give a huge shout out to Mrs Bloomfield and Ms Doyle for all their hard work and organisation. The food alone was equal to eating in a five star restaurant! Opportunities like these for our students have such an positive impact on their social and emotional wellbeing. We are very lucky to have such dedicated staff who give up their own time to organise and attend these extracurricular activities.

Kinder Possums and Wombats had a wonderful day at the Marine Discovery Centre on Wednesday this week and it was so lovely to hear all about what they experienced and discovered on their excursion. Our Facebook page contains some lovely photos of this, and lots of other activities around the school and I encourage you all to have a look and “Like” our school page.

2019 class lists and structures have now been finalised and I would like to thank all those parents who made appointments, sent emails or called the school with information to help support these placements. As you are aware next year we are moving to 15 classes. Staff have been allocated to their classes and there will be some considerable movement throughout the school to help facilitate several staff changing grades. The following table will show what our structures will look like in 2019.

As you may be aware the public sector unions have called stop work action on Wednesday 28th November until 10:30am. We are working to determine whether our school can continue to care for your children safely during this time.  We will advise early next week whether arrangements will be in place at our school to supervise your children, or whether the school will be opening at 10:30am on that day. We understand this is a difficult situation for families and appreciate your patience while these matters are worked through.

Henley Christmas is quickly approaching and we look forward to seeing you there on Friday 7th December from 5pm. I am very  pleased to announce that the School Association has purchased a new sound system for the school so that we can ensure that you can hear all of our student singing their hearts out on the night. This sound system will also be beneficial for the fair, school carnivals, events and BBQ’s, quiz nights etc. and we are very grateful for this generous donation.

Kind Regards,

Kel Innis

Principal
