WHOLE SCHOOL REFLECTION

What a busy and productive time we have had since our last newsletter! As we edge closer to the end of the year, it is a good time to reflect on the journey of our amazing students. Our Kinder students have developed into strong, independent learners who look absolutely ready for Prep next year. The Kinder students of 2023 have engaged wonderfully with our Launch Into Learning and Pre-Kinder programs and we look forward to welcoming them to our wonderful school as we move forwards.

The Prep-Year 6 students have been extremely busy in the last fortnight and school has had many events and programs in place to support learning. Fire Fighter Drew has been at school delivering valuable information and skills to our students around Fire Safety. Drew went right out of his way to pass on feedback that he was very impressed with the engagement levels of our students in his sessions and the high levels of respect that were displayed. This is welcomed news that I will never tire of hearing!

All of our students attended the launch of our mural and this was well supported by the school, School Association and members of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Community. LPS students sang, and we were lead in a procession, and participated in a smoking ceremony. Thank you for everyone that worked on the mural and on its launch as it was a very powerful and special experience for everyone involved. If you would like to see the amazing mural, it is attached to the side of the Learning Pod in the Top Playground.

Our Year 3-4 and 5-6 students have been away on camp, to Dodges Ferry and Orford, respectively. This is the first year that we have taken the Year 3s, 4s and 5s and the experience was a resounding success. Many students reported that they have taken away memories that they will cherish for years moving forwards and the connections made amongst the groups were strong. Thank you to parents for supporting this opportunity and big thanks to the teaching teams that put a lot of hard work into providing these experiences.

Progressive Achievement Testing has occurred for all students from P-6 in the areas of English and Maths. The results from the Assessments play a valuable role in showing us where student learning is at and where to next. Well done to all students who participated in this, as the preliminary data is very positive and all students gave their best.

Our Year 6 students have participated in a transition program lead by PULSE around adapting to change and the challenges associated with moving to high school. This program was a great success and focussed on specific strategies that students can use during this time of change. Metro Tasmania and PCYC also ran a program with our Year 6 students that addressed the specifics of organising bus travel to high school, as well as discussing ways to be safe on the bus. This was also attended by Jack the Jack Jumper Mascot who was a crowd favourite!

We have a number of strong swimmers at Lindisfarne Primary School who attended the SPSSA Inter-School Swimming Carnival and were supported well by Mr Kamano and Miss Murray. Our students represented LPS well and performed very well in the pool – great work team! From that carnival, five students have been invited to the Swimming Champions Carnival; congratulations and good luck to Will, Jacob, Lihwa, Samuel and Wiley!
