Welcome back to sunny Term 4! What a wonderful new-look LPS we all arrived to this week. Our two new flagpoles have been erected, and Brett and his team of helpers have done an awesome job designing, planting and placing the rocks around the area. We are looking forward to our indigenous students adding some traditional Aboriginal painting on the large boulders. We will hold an opening ceremony very soon to celebrate the raising of the Aboriginal flag in our school grounds. Thank you Brett and team!
I would like to extend a big welcome to Mrs Anita Clifton, who started in the Kinder this week, as well as Miss Steph Hind who is our new Art specialist teacher.
A reminder that moving into the hotter months hats are compulsory for outside play. It is also a good idea to apply long lasting sunscreen before school. We are in the process of providing each class with a large container of sunscreen that all students are welcome to use however if you prefer your own brand, students are welcome to also bring their own to school.
Looking forward into this term we have a very busy time ahead. There are many excursions, performances and activities planned and our Grade 6 students have their camp coming up very soon. Parent help is always encouraged so if you would like to show your support by volunteering in any capacity (in the library, on an excursion, in class or in the canteen), please ensure you have an up-to-date RWVP card and let your child’s teacher or the office staff know if and when you are available.
Over the holiday we have had a change in canteen management. We would like to thank Janelle Cooper for all her effort and work over the past 2 years. The canteen will be closed next week for the public holiday and Student Free Day, however we are very excited to welcome Tania Coster and Kathryn Doyle who will be taking over and opening in week 3. A new menu will be available very soon and we welcome all parents, grandparents and friends of the school who can volunteer a recess or lunch over the term their time to contact the school office.
Please check your students' school bags for this term's curriculum letters. Classroom teachers have dedicated planning sessions every week to ensure that their curriculum content aligns for the term, and that there are explicit examples of the content and skills covered in your child’s learning program. This is a direct action taken from feedback from the school satisfaction surveys in 2018, where families indicated that they would like more information about what is being taught and when it is being taught. This guaranteed curriculum is a focus of our weekly planning sessions and is a great launch pad for conversations at home when you can ask your kids “what did you do at school today?”

Get involved in the School Banking program.
Lindisfarne Primary School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students.
School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking will earn an exciting reward evertime they reach 10 deposits.
The rewards available during 2019 are:
- Scented Stackable Highlighters
- Snowy Origami Set
- Icicle Slapband Ruler
- Yeti Fluffly Notepad
- Arctic Owl Fluffy Keyring
- Scratch Art Cards
- Water Skimming Bounce Ball
- Polar Pencils & Pencil Toppers
Please see deposit order form for which rewards are available in Term 4.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
- Online
Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
- In branch
Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is THURSDAY. Each week you need to complete the deposit slip in your child's bank book, send the bank book to school with your child and remind them to pop it into the GREY BANK BAG in their classroom.
If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2019 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit

STUDENT PERFORMERS DO NOT REQUIRE A TICKET
We'd like to take a moment to celebrate one of our amazing students, Imogen, who, along with her older sister Isobel, has been hard at work to raise money for Variety the Childrens' Charity. As well as fundraising online with her mother's help, Imogen ran a very successful lolly guessing competition at school. Not only did she raise much needed funds, Imogen and her sister donated 35cm of their own hair to be made into wigs for cancer fighters!
Here are some words from Imogen's mum from the day of the big chop:
"Today Isobel and Imogen donated their hair to charity. Their hair will be made into a wig for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition. In addition to their hair donation, they have been raising awareness and much needed funds for Variety the Children's Charity. We would like to thank everyone for their support and generous donations. A very special thank you to Kate at Audrey Hair for donating her time and supporting the girls with their courageous cause. They both love their new look, and hope their hair brings a smile and confidence to another child in need."
Well done, Imogen! Your generosity and kindness is inspiring!
The final assembly for 2019 will be held on Friday 15th November. Prep A will be hosting and we will enjoy performances from 2A, SRC and a representative from Woolworths will be here to present the school with the reward items from the recent Earn and Learn promotion.
Assembly begins at 2:10pm in the GP room and all are welcome to attend.
Entries for the 2019 Schools Triathlon have now closed. Entry packs and further information about the day will be sent home with students in the coming weeks.
For general enquiries, please consult the Schools Triathlon Challenge website:
Pre Kinder starts this Tuesday 22nd October so it is extremely important that if you or someone you know have a child born in 2015 who are intending on coming to LPS in 2020, enrolment forms are completed and returned to the office.
We look forward to meeting our newest students on Tuesday at Pre Kinder!
Book Club Issue 7 was sent home with students yesterday. Please submit orders by Friday 1st November. Orders can be placed online at:
https://mybookclubs.scholastic.com.au/Parent/Login.aspx
Or by completing the order form in the catalogue and returning it to the office. Cash or card payment is available.
This will be the final book club order for the year. Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts by purchasing books through Scholastic. Every Book Club order you place earns the school an amount of reward dollars. We use these funds to purchase 100, 200 and 300 Nights Reading rewards, with students able to potentially earn 6 free books each year! We would not be able to sustain these rewards without your support, so thank you!
Next Thursday 25th October is the Hobart Show Day public holiday. Friday 26th October is Student Free Day, while our staff participate in Professional Learning. Care will not be provided for this day.
