Welcome back to what we hope will be a quiet and productive term! It has been wonderful to see all our lovely students again. Thank you for returning them to us so refreshed and obviously ready for learning. This term we welcome three new staff to our team; Mrs Amelia Kenny is joining us on the Grade Four class, and Mrs Christine Meikle and Phoebe Body are joining us as Teacher Assistants.
This term we are very pleased to open up our new nature play area beside the Music block, in front of the loose parts play container. We will be providing students with digging utensils, as well as daily challenges to find hidden objects and encouraging the students to use natural and manmade objects to inform their play. Promoting their curiosity and wonder is so important and we would like to thank Brett for helping us make this area so flexible and fun!
Reading is a whole school priority and every class has committed to guided reading groups several times a week. To help assist this process we encourage any parents, grandparents or community members to contact their classroom teachers to volunteer as a ‘parent helper’, especially during our morning literacy blocks. If you have a current RWVP card and have some spare time we would love to invite you back into our classrooms. Please contact class teachers directly to organise a time.
Hi there,
Just wanted to introduce myself - I’m the new Chair of the School Association.
I’ve been involved in the association for a couple of years now. I didn’t know what to expect when I first joined, but was met with friendly faces and found myself learning about the ins and outs of how the school was run, how to contribute to school policies and about how to help out at school events.
I am passionate about making sustainable environmental choices, increasing school understanding of local Aboriginal culture and building the involvement of the broader school community to support our children’s learning. I was really excited to see new faces at the last meeting and would like to encourage people along to our next meeting in Term 3:
Tuesday 28th July,
6:45pm for a 7pm start
GP room
We have a guest speaker at the meeting – the Chair of the Tasmanian Association of State School Organisations – who will give an introduction and quick Q&A about school associations and their roles: a useful introductory meeting to come along to. We will also be discussing some funding proposals.
If there is anything you would like to ask me about how the meetings operate, are keen to have something discussed or have ideas about the kinds of things you would like the SA to fund or raise money for, please get in touch with me via email – I’m keen to hear from you.
See you about,
Sarah
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, school photos that were scheduled to be taken early in 2020 were postponed. As previously advertised, our new School Photo Day is Wednesday 5th August.
Envelopes with order codes were sent home early in the year, and any orders placed since then are still valid. If you have not returned your child's photo order envelope, please do so before Monday 3rd August. If you require a new envelope or your child's order code, please contact the school office.
Sibling/family envelopes are also available from the office.
It is important to note that there are some changes to school photos this year. Students will be photographed individually, or in sibling/family groups only. Classes will not be photographed in groups.
Leading Image are committed to providing a safe school photo day while adhering to current guidelines. Please read through the FAQs below:
Catch Up Days
Due to reduced school days and re-scheduling, we may not be able to return outside our main shoot day. We may need to take extra photos on the day and re-build our products to provide an alternative replica product.
Whole School Photos
Due to restrictions to gatherings of more than two or more, along with specific government laws in some states. Taking a traditional whole school photo may not be possible in 2020.
Payment Options
In line with many businesses across Australia, Leading Image is encouraging all orders be made online, and move away from placing cash inside the photo order envelope.
Ordering Family Photos
Payments MUST be made before 4pm, the day before photo day. There will be absolutely no exceptions to this process meaning those who don’t adhere to the process, will miss out. Family photos will only be taken of the families who have ordered and paid for a photo. A list will be provided to our staff on the day. There will be no provisions to include families who haven’t purchased a family shot within this timeline.
Please remember that if you need to visit the school for anything other than dropping off or picking up students, you need to sign in at the front office and fill out a Health Screen questionnaire. LIL families can sign in once they get to their session, and our LIL teachers will have the Health Screen form there foryou to complete.
Term 3 of Launching into Learning has begun. This term there are 3 sessions running:
- Tuesdays from 9am-9:45am in the Music Room with Mrs Brown
- Thursdays from 9am-10am in the GP room with Ms Innis (Little Learners)
- Thursdays from 9am-10am in the Library with Miss Hudson (Pre Kinder)
Our Pre Kinder sessions for Term 3 will begin in the GP room and move to the Library once children have arrived. This group is open for all children who turn 5 in 2021 and have submitted a 2021 Kinder application to LPS.
Please note: For children attending these Pre-Kinder sessions who have submitted an Out of Area enrolment application, this does not guarantee acceptance in to our 2021 Kinder program. The DoE enrolment process still stands and you will be advised in week 2 of Term 4 of the enrolment outcome.
Please see the timetables below for Term 3 activities:
DoE UPDATES TO SCHOOL INTAKE AREAS
The Department of Education (DoE) has released updated government primary and combined (district) school intake areas, to apply from Term 1, 2021. These updated intake areas will only apply to families who enrol a child in a government primary or combined (district) school for the first time from Term1, 2021.
This means that for parents with children already enrolled in our school, the updated intake areas do not apply to your family. If your child has a brother or sister who hasn’t started school yet, they can still enrol at our school.
Our school’s updated intake area map can be found here:
This map is the same as the Proposed Map released by DoE last year in stage two of the Intake Area Review consultation process.
Why do we have intake areas?
Intake areas ensure that every Tasmanian child can enrol at a high quality government school close to where they live. Attending a school close to home helps children feel part of their local community. Intake areas also help ensure schools have the facilities and staff to best support their students’ learning.
Where to get more information?
If you would like more information about our school’s intake area, or help finding out whether a particular address is within our intake area boundary, please contact us directly.
Alternatively you can contact Learning Services (Learning Services Southern Region: phone 6165 6466 or email Learning.Services.S@education.tas.gov.au or Learning Services Northern Region: phone 6777 2440 or email Learning.Services.NR@education.tas.gov.au) [schools to select appropriate option]
If you have questions related to the Intake Area Review please visit the DoE Intake Area webpage Here you will also find answers to Frequently Asked Questions
