While our Swimming Carnival won’t be the traditional celebration of team spirit and house participation this year, we want to ensure that our students have the opportunity to attend the SPSSA Inter-School Carnival in their appropriate heats, so we are running trials on Wednesday 16th September. Only students who intend to be considered for the Inter-School Carnival will travel to the pool, and we will only run the races that are in the Inter-School in November. Each race will be timed, and the fastest swimmers will represent their grades. Unfortunately we cannot invite any spectators, however we are still looking for parent volunteers. Please email me if you can help on the day from 9:30am-2pm.
With current Public Health Advice urging us to stay home and get tested if we have cold or ‘flu like symptoms, we have seen quite a lot of student absence. Thank you for contacting our office to let us know when your child is away. However, it is important to obtain a Medical Certificate after 5 days of a child’s non-attendance due to illness. This is Department of Education policy, and we are required to implement it. If your child is not sick it is critical that they attend school. 1 day off a fortnight equates to 20 days of learning missed in a year, which is 4 weeks! 1 day a week off and they have nearly missed a term. It is difficult for teachers to continue to deliver a learning program successfully to children with high absenteeism. Ofte,n they do not have the evidence of learning to accurately assess students. While we know we have to follow the current advice from Public Health, we also know that high attendance correlates with maximum achievement for student learning outcome; every day at school counts.
There are still many unsupervised students outside the Loatta Street gate from 8:10am. Our teaching staff are able to supervise students on school grounds from 8:30am onwards, and we ask that students do not arrive at school unsupervised until then. Clarence Children's Services provide Outside School Hours Care from 7:30am in the GP hall if you need care before school. If you drop students at the gate before school please ensure that you stay with them if it is before 8:30am. If you have students who walk to school, please ensure that they are not leaving at a time that will mean they arrive before 8:30am
Kind regards,
Kel Innis
Principal

QKR! ONLINE CANTEEN ORDERING
Bambini Bites works in association with CBA Bank/Mastercard and uses their online school canteen ordering system for the convenience of schools, parents and students called QKR! which can be downloaded to all Apple phones/IPAD’s and Android devices.
QKR! allows parents/staff to log into the app and place lunch order two (2) weeks in advance any time until 9.00pm the night prior the lunch is required.
Unfortunately, if you miss this cut off time, we are unable to assist with late orders. We recommend that you place your order as early as possible QKR! sometimes struggles near cut off times due to the high usage of all users Australia wide. This cut off time has been put into place to allow our kitchen staff sufficient time to prepare food for all lunch orders.
WHAT TO DO IF MY CHILD IS SICK AND NOT ATTENDING SCHOOL AND I HAVE PLACED AN ORDER VIA QKR!
We understand that little people can become unwell at the drop of a hat, to assist parents and families with this we request an email to advise.
We need to receive notification no later than 9.00am the morning of the fulfilment of the lunch order, this will enable us to hold the order over for the next school lunch day.
Please note that due to the time of day we are unable to reply instantly and there could be a delay, we will do our absolute best to have contacted you within 24 hours.
Phone calls are not accepted as we need the details to hold onto the order and as you can appreciate are usually super busy preparing food to fulfill hundreds of orders for hungry tummies!
Please email bambinibites@gmail.com
please add to the email
· Childs name and order date
· Child/children’s class and items ordered
· Please add the new date you would like to change the order to.
EG Sarah Bell, order date 02/03. Class 1/2S, 1x toasted cheese, 1 fruit tub, 1xbottled water. New order 07/03.
Please note that orders can be cancelled prior to cut off time via logging into the QKR! and selecting the order and cancelling, however this will apply a credit as no refunds will apply. The credit will be available next time you wish to place an order.
This year, Ms Innis has issued us with a challenged! She has asked that we raise $2000 to shave her head! The more money we raise, the better. We have currently raised $2160 so she will definitely be losing her hair!! On the 25th September 2020 at 11am in the courtyard Ms Innis will be having SRC members shave her head to raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation. Some teachers will also be dying their hair bright and wonderful colours.
To donate towards this fundraiser you can go to the office and leave some money in the donation box or you can do it online at following link:
http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/kelinnis
Donating will help us raise even more money to support the fight against cancer.
There are many different types of cancer and in Australia cancer is a leading cause of death. The most common cancers in Australia are breast, prostrate, bowel, melanoma and lung cancer. They represent about 60% of all cancers diagnosed in Australia. Leukaemia is a cancer in the blood cells.

Reader’s Club started at the beginning of this term and happens every Tuesday morning from 8:30-9:00am in the library.
VOLUNTEERS WANTED! If you are able to drop in between 8:30-9:00am on Tuesdays to listen to students read, please do, we would appreciate your help.
This is a space where students are encouraged to come and read and practise their fluency by reading aloud to a listening adult. This has been initiated to support our reading priority.
To recognise and celebrate student’s participation and commitment to reading, any student who comes along to Reader’s Club will receive a raffle ticket to go into a draw to win a book of their choice at the end of each month. These will be randomly drawn and announced over the PA. In addition to the book raffle, any students who have been listened to in Reader’s Club will have a night’s reading completed in their reading log – this is a great way for students to earn reading 100, 200 or 300 nights particularly if reading at home is difficult.
All visitors to the school MUST complete a Visitor Health Screen form in the office before moving through the school. This includes any one coming into the school for any reason other than dropping off or collecting students.
Families attending LIL, Pre Kinder and Little Learners can complete the forms when they arrive to the GP room/Music room.
CANCELLED - 2020 SWIMMING AND WATER SAFETY
The Department run, Swimming and Water Safety program (SAWS) has unfortunately been cancelled for our school this year due to COVID-19 guidelines and limited pool availability. Schools will be notified at the earliest possible opportunity should there be any changes or updates to this information.
At this stage, both our school Swimming Carnival and the early childhood Swim Fun program are still going ahead. Please note, this is still subject to change.
