Welcome to Term 2
A warm welcome to Term 2 to everyone in our school community. It has been great to see so many smiling faces returning to our school looking refreshed and ready to go!
Our Principal, Kel Innis, is away for the beginning of Term 2 and I will be Acting Principal during this time. We look forward to her re-joining the team as the term moves forward. Please feel free to contact me through the school office on 62 439 232.
We welcome Hannah Walters to our teaching team on Prep/1 in place of Stacey Price, who is on maternity leave. Hannah brings a wealth of experience to the role and knows the students well from her time with the class last term.
There have been changes to the COVID close contact classification from the beginning of Term 2.
Students who would previously have been considered Close Contacts are able to attend school if they meet the following requirements:
- Are well and not showing any COVID symptoms
- Have returned a negative RAT or PCR test when notified they were a close contact
- Continue to test daily before leaving the house to attend school during the next 7 days
The school office has a supply of RATs that are available through the school office by request. Maximising classroom ventilation is one of the measures taken by schools in the Department of Education place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. All practicable measures will be taken throughout the term to maintain warm classrooms and we ask that students come to school with a warm jumper or jacket.
NAPLAN preparation is complete and testing for our Year 3 and Year 5 students runs from May 9-13. The learning data obtained from these tests are part of the suite of information used by teachers to help inform future learning.
Our football and netball Winter Sports Rosters begin this term for year 5/6 students and will run fortnightly. Further information and rosters will be provided to students involved and we are hoping for playable weather as often as possible.
The Water Safety Program for students in Years 3-5 will be up and running from June 14-24. This is a valuable opportunity for students to develop their water safety skills and will take place at the Clarence Swimming Pool. Further information to come for those students in these classes.
Thank you very much for the ongoing community support that helps us to create such a wonderful learning partnership between school and home. We look forward to another excellent term with our outstanding students.
School photos have arrived and have been delivered. If you have ordered photos and have not received yours as yet, please call by the office and collect them.
If you had not ordered photos but would like to do so, the office does have a unique code for each student and family that had a photo done for you to order them online now.
Let’s make every school day count
Being at school is the best place for our kids. It’s where they learn and grow alongside their friends, and where they benefit the most.
The Department of Education’s new communication resources on School attendance highlight the importance of regular school attendance – watch the television commercial here.
Going to school not only promotes academic success, but also helps build important social skills, relationships and confidence. Every COVID-safe measure is being taken, so that every student can learn in class safely.
What we do know is that every school day counts. Bright futures begin at school, so if your child is well enough to attend school, being in the physical school environment is the best place for them.
For more information, please visit the Department of Education website.
If you need support translating or interpreting this information, contact the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
Rapid Antigen Tests are still available from the office, if you are unable to collect, please call the office on 6243 9232.
NOTICE OF UPCOMING PLUMBING WORK
Department of Education Facility Services will commence plumbing work on Monday to rectify the overflowing downpipes outside the Administration Block.
For this work to be done, we will need to cordon off this area, which will effect the flow of people coming into and departing the school from Loatta Road and families from 1/2Navy will not have access to their external bag boxes.
Can everyone please use the Loatta Road bottom entrance closest to Henley Street while this work is being done. The alternative will require you to go around the back of the GP Room and back down.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility over this period. All going well this work will be completed in approximately a week and a half.
Kinder enrolments for our 2023 classes are now open for children born in 2018. Children must either be living within the Lindisfarne Primary School Intake Area or be a younger sibling of an already enrolled student at Lindisfarne Primary School.
If you have a child ready for Kinder next year, please phone the school office on 6243 9232 to get the enrolment process started.

Seesaw is an important communication tool that all of our teachers use to interact and share learning with families. We encourage parents to interact with staff through this portal and talk with you children about what we have shared. This is monitored during school hours. Please ensure you obtain the QR code from your children’s teacher and sign up to receive regular updates on their learning and photos of them engaging in lots of different activities.
If you have any urgent information that you need to give your children, the teacher or the office please call 6243 9262 as email communication can not be guaranteed with a prompt response.

THE PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
The Premier's Reading Challenge has officially started!
This year, the challenge begins on Monday 2nd May and ends on Friday 8th July. Students record the books they have read using the log books, which were distributed last Wednesday. A returns box for completed log books will be located in the library, along with spare log books if extras are needed.
About the Challenge:
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) challenges students from Prep to Year 6 to make reading a fun part of their day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. This can be integrated with existing classroom reading programs. Students can negotiate with their teacher to have a large chapter book counted as being more than one book. Whilst reading 10 books means the student has completed the Challenge, they can read more. All Prep-Grade 6 students have been registered to participate.
All Students participating in the Challenge:
- Receive a PRC bookmark
- Go in the weekly draw to win a school visit from Hawka.
- There are 10 to be won, 1 for each week of the challenge.
All students completing the Challenge:
- Receive a certificate from the Premier.
- Go in the draw to win a $100 book voucher.
- There are 3 to be won; 1 prize for each region.
Happy reading eveyone!
