Welcome to this edition of our LPS Newsletter. What an amazing feeling it is to finally have some consistent days of sunshine! I know the staff and students are very much enjoying being able to access our amazing school grounds and enjoy the fresh air and warmer days after some very challenging wet, rainy days and weeks!
It is such a busy time of the year. We are already approaching the half-way mark of the term. There is a lot of excitement in the school this week as our Grade 3-6 students head out on school camps. Thank you to all those who have put in and are putting in, extra time over the next few days, for planning, organisation and supervision of these events. Our staff have gone above and beyond to provide timetables that are jam-packed full of amazing experiences that I am sure will create many memories for our students. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return.
Well done to our Swimming Team who represented our school with pride earlier this week at the Division 1 Interschool Swimming Carnival. We came 6th which is a wonderful effort! Our P-6 students have also been busy in the last couple of weeks completing online PAT testing in English and Maths. PAT testing provides our school with relevant data to track student growth in these learning areas.
Please ensure that you remain connected to our school’s channels of communication in this busy time in the lead up to the end of year. There will be many class-based and whole school events that will be scheduled to celebrate the growth and achievement of our students and to celebrate the year.
The School Leadership Team and Staff are already into the phase of planning staffing, our school structures and class groups for 2023. Other than with the Prep cohort, composite classes will exist across our school next year. Composite classes give our school the most flexibility in creating class groups where students are placed with other students that they learn well with. We have a school-based curriculum pacing guide that maps out “A” and “B” years, ensuring that students do not have content repeated from one year to the next. We also have a school-based systematic approach to teaching Literacy and Numeracy that involves running common assessment tasks at the beginning of each unit to find out what students know, understand, and can do, in any area to identify where to next for each student. This tells us far more about their learning needs than their grade level does. Careful tracking of student learning data whilst using a composite based class model has shown significant growth in student outcomes. Please be assured that considerable hours are put into creating class groups to ensure student abilities are spread across classes, students’ emotional and social wellbeing is considered as are existing friendship groups.
Whole school, class and individual transition support processes will be implemented between now and the end of the year to support student transitions and preparing for change. It can also be helpful for families to support preparing your child/children for change and I read an interesting article during the week that highlighted the importance of:
- Letting the child lead the conversation so as not to overwhelm the child with too much information. It is also important to normalise their feelings of challenge towards change and reassure them their feelings are normal.
- As adults sometimes it’s also about shifting our mindset when we are supporting our children through change, change doesn’t always have to be seen as a scary time, change can definitely also be exciting!
Thank you for supporting our teachers in the Industrial Action that took place during the week. We understand that this may have provided some logistical challenges for families but we really appreciate your support.
Our Swimming Team had fun and represented our school with pride at the Interschool Swimming Carnival on Monday. We experienced some individual successes along with our team coming sixth overall. Well done Lindisfarne!
Congratulations to Xavier who competed in the Champions Carnival in Launcestion this week. Well done!
OUTSTANDING LEVIES, CAMP AND BRASS FEES
With 2023 looming fast it would be preferable for everyone if all 2022 amounts be cleared before the end of the year.
It would be very much appreciated if anyone with any outstanding amounts please start to make weekly/fortnightly payments to endeavour to clear the debt.
You are able to do this yourself online or call the friendly office staff and they can process payments over the phone each week/fortnight.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me at libby.ashlin@education.tas.gov.au or phone on 6243 9232. Thank you for your co-operation.
A FRIENDLY REMINDER
We have noticed an increasing number of parents using the turning circle to park or drop children off in the morning and afternoon collection times.
Our carpark is for staff use only
Please make sure that you obey all Tasmanian Road Laws when parking around the school. Be mindful not to park over driveways, or too close to corners and crossings.

Dear Students and Families,
I know it is hard to believe, but Spring is here!
Please remember from Thursday 1 September until the end of the school year, to have your hat at school every day. You will need to wear it when you are outside.
Department of Education Sun Protection Policy - This policy aims to ensure staff, students and children maintain a healthy UV balance all year round.
Being SunSmart in Tasmania means using sun protection when UV levels reach 3 and above, this occurs from September to April. This means implementing sun protection measures from the beginning of the school year until the end of April and again from the beginning of September until the end of the school year.
Public Health has changed close contact requirements and rules for people who test positive to COVID-19. COVID positive cases and close contacts of COVID-19 cases are no longer required to isolate. However, Public Health continue to recommend COVID positive cases and close contacts do the following:
• Stay home if unwell,
• Wear a mask indoors,
• Avoid high risk settings,
• Avoid large gatherings and indoor crowded spaces,
• Avoid people at risk of severe illness,
• Inform Public Health of their positive result,
• Notify their workplace.
Requirement for children and young people or other visitors who are close contacts or test positive to COVID-19
• They should stay home and test if they have, or develop, any symptoms
• In schools, it is recommended that children and young people (or their parents and carers) inform their school that they are a COVID positive case so the school can monitor the number of cases within the classroom.
• In other sites, it is recommended that visitors consider rescheduling and inform their contact prior to their visit/appointment.
• Students who are close contacts or test positive to COVID-19, may attend schools (except Support Schools) if:
o they are well and asymptomatic, or
o they have recovered and their acute symptoms are resolved.
• Children and visitors who have tested positive to COVID or are close contacts should wear a face mask in all indoor settings for 7 days.
• It is recommended that secondary students wear masks while primary students are encouraged and supported to.
• Students can ask for a mask at school.
• Students or visitors who are close contacts or test positive to COVID-19, must not attend Support Schools for 7 days from their positive test.
For more information, visit the Tasmanian Government Coronavirus website.
The LPS Parents & Friends Assosiation have approved funding for our School to be involved in this unique reading support program to help our students to become life-long readers.
The teachers love this program, the students can’t wait to read and the program works!
- Do you have a dog that is well behaved, gentle and is happy around children?
- Can you spare a couple of hours a week?
Benefits to your school and students:-
- Year 2 students receive one on one time, approx 20 mins, with an accredited Dog Team, the dog handler and the dog.
- A reading support program that gets results – see web site for more details;
- Minimal class disruption – the dog does not go into the classroom unless invited by
the classroom teacher. All reading sessions are outside of the classroom in a quiet
space nearby; - A new and exciting spin on reading for your students.
How the Program fits into your school:-
- Reading sessions take place in a quiet area of the school grounds, such as the
library or the verandah outside the classroom. - A reading session is approximately 20 minutes long, where each child is one-on-one with the Dog Team.
- The Dog Team will visit on the same day at the same time each week, seeing the
same 4 – 6 Target Students. - Books are chosen to suit the child’s reading level. Story Dogs does supply books
and books can also be from the classroom or library. - During the session the handler often speaks through the dog, such as; “Simba
doesn’t quite understand what is happening on this page could you help him out?”
The child becomes the teacher; confidence soars!
If you have a dog that may be suitable for the program and you are willing to volunteer your time, please call or email Story Dogs for more information.
We have two main channels of communication here at LPS, Schoolzine and Seesaw. Schoolzine is where we issue things like this newsletter, important information relating to COVID and other essential communications that need your actions or attention.
Seesaw is an important communication tool that all of our teachers use to interact and share learning with families. We encourage parents to interact with staff through this portal and talk with you children about what we have shared. This is monitored during school hours. Please ensure you obtain the QR code from your children’s teacher and sign up to receive regular updates on their learning and photos of them engaging in lots of different activities.
If you have any urgent information that you need to give your children, the teacher or the office please call 6243 9262 as email communication can not be guaranteed with a prompt response.
LUNCH ORDER SERVICE - BAMBINI BITES
QKR ONLINE CANTEEN ORDERING
Bambini Bites works in association with CBA Bank/Mastercard and uses their online school canteen ordering system for the convenience of schools, parents and students called QKR which can be downloaded to all Apple phones/IPAD’s and Android devices.
QKR allows parents/staff to log into the app and place lunch order two (2) weeks in advance any time until 9.00pm the night prior the lunch is required.
Unfortunately, if you miss this cut off time, we are unable to assist with late orders. We recommend that you place your order as early as possible QKR sometimes struggles near cut off times due to the high usage of all users Australia wide. This cut off time has been put into place to allow our kitchen staff sufficient time to prepare food for all lunch orders.
WHAT TO DO IF MY CHILD IS SICK AND NOT ATTENDING SCHOOL AND I HAVE PLACED AN ORDER VIA QKR
We understand that little people can become unwell at the drop of a hat, to assist parents and families with this we request a text message to advise.
- Parents MUST send text message ONLY to 0400 948 649
- Copy of order receipt is required which will include the reference number for the order placed
- We will need confirmation of your child's name, school, class & ordered items.
We will process a credit to your QkR account within 3-5 business days that can be use in the future..
This process will take effect from Monday 27th June.
All order cancellations received after 7:45 AM will not be issued with a credit as after this time we will have prepared these items for lunch service.
We are happy for orders to be moved to other children or parents to collect from the canteen at lunchtime on the day of order fulfillment instead.
Please note orders for Sushi can not be refunded as these are ordered from a third party supplier and are ordered in advance.
These orders need to be cancelled via QkR prior to order cut off times (sushi specific) which is a day prior to normal order cut off times.
