Welcome back to Term 2!
My name is Sarah Hoban and I am the Acting Principal for Term 2 while Kel Innis is on leave. I would like to thank the school staff and community for making me feel very welcome.
We have made a lovely start to Term 2. This term will be very busy with lots of opportunities for students. Naplan will begin in week 3 for grades 3 and 5, Learn to Swim for grades 3-5, National Simultaneous Story Time, performances, school and inter-school cross country and many more experiences for your child(ren) to participate in.
The opening of the new Kindergarten playground has been a success. I would like to publicly thank the school groundsman, Brett for his wonderful work creating this space for our students. In the early years, literacy is developed through play and through informal yet intentional teaching in social contexts.
I would also like to welcome our new Grade 5/6 teacher, Georgie Mountford. Georgie will be at Lindisfarne on Mondays through to Thursdays. Rebecca Miller will be taking over from Russell Smith on Mondays in Grade 3.
Sarah Hoban
Acting Principal
Your child may have mentioned making a new friend this week - Indy, a 3yo Maltese cross, who belongs to our Acting Principal, Mrs Hoban.
Indy has become extremely popular amongst our students (and staff!) and has been a wonderful addition to our school environment.
Dogs in Schools and School Grounds
Under Section 28 of the Dog Control Act 2000, principals can make decisions about dogs in and on school property.
A person must not take a dog into:
- any grounds of a school, preschool, kindergarten, creche or other place for the reception of children without the permission of a person in charge of the place
4A & 4B will be visiting the Marine Discovery Centre this Monday 6th May. Students will be out for the entire school day, so will need to bring a packed lunch, drink bottle and warm clothing.
Launching Into Learning (LIL) is up and running for Term 2! Head along to one of our fun and engaging sessions, open to children aged 0-5:
TUESDAYS - Rock & Rhyme with Mrs Green. 9am - 9:45am in the Music Room
THURSDAYS - Play & Learn with Mrs Bec. 915am - 10am in the Kinder building
Follow our Facebook page or subscribe to SZapp for updates during the term.
See you there!
Mother's Day
Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall
The association will be holding a BBQ and Cake stall on Saturday 18th May to coincide with the Federal Election. Come along to the GP room to cast your vote, and grab a delicious treat on the way out! If you are able to help out with a donation of cakes, or baked goods, please make sure ingredients are clearly labelled and we ask no items that need refrigerating be dropped off. Plates, sandwich bags and labels are available from the office. Donations can be left at the office on Friday 17th May.
Funding Update
The Association recently agreed to fund a project put forward by one of the parents in our community, Tash, to bring some colour to our walls! Students have been very patiently and excitedly awaiting the reveal of some beautiful, original artwork by Tash in the girls bathroom in the Gallery. Tash will be continuing this beautiful project around other areas of the school and we can't wait to hear how much the students love the images next week! Here is a sneak peek:
We'd like to say an enormous thank you to Tash Fewkes for her hard work, dedication and generosity with her time! Thanks also go out to Pete Bird, for his efforts getting this project up and running. The space is sure to lift spirits for years to come! If you'd like to see more of Tash's work, follow her Facebook page: Tyde + Dune
The School Association welcome suggestions for projects, funding ideas and sponsorship. Parents/friends/carers are welcome to attend our meetings, held in the Library. The next meeting will be next Monday 13th May at 7pm. We hope to see you there!
The next assembly will be held on Friday 10th May at 2:10pm in the GP room. 4B will be hosting, and you can enjoy performances from 2A and 5/6C.
Canteen is open THURSDAYS and FRIDAYS for lunch orders and counter sales. Lunch orders can be placed using the Qkr! App (available via the App store or GooglePlay). A full and updated menu can be viewed on Qkr!.
If you’d like to volunteer in the canteen, please email our Canteen Manager Janelle, or let the office staff know.
Book Club Issue 3 is now open for ordering. Catalogues came home with students yesterday. Ordering is quick and easy via the LOOP app, or Scholastic website.
Every order earns 20% in Scholastic Rewards for our school, which we use to purchase the books given to students for 100, 200 and 300 nights of reading in their Home Readers. They are also used to keep our library resources up to date.
Take a look at Issue 3 here:
Our students were invited to attend the ANZAC Day service and we are extremely proud of how well LPS was represented. The SRC Executive laid a wreath as a gesture of rememberance for all who have sacrificed for our Country.
The LPS Choir combined with Lindisfarne North to perform ”I am Australian” for those who attended the service.
