Good afternoon familes,
The cold weather has arrived and temperatures are likely to continue their descent. Teachers and auxiliary staff are doing an excellent job of keeping classrooms at a comfortable temperature, but please remember to pack warm jumpers and jackets for outside play. This will be particularly important for students in Years 3-5 when we move into our Water Safety Program later in the term.
The Lindisfarne Primary School Association is a great way for parents and community members to be involved in school life and to make a positive impact for our students. The School Association had their Annual General Meeting recently and there are a variety of positions still available. If you would like to get involved with the School Association in any capacity, please contact the school office and ask to speak to Shae. The more the merrier!
Students in Years 3 and 5 have been undertaking NAPLAN Assessments over the previous fortnight and have done an excellent job. This was their first encounter with NAPLAN for both Year Groups, as NAPLAN was not held when the current Year 5 students were in Year 3 due to COVID. Great work guys!
As you would be aware, reporting to families looks different in 2022. This Term, parents will receive a mid-year assessment for their child’s learning against the new 9-Point Scale that adds further detail to the previous A-E system. There will also be an opportunity at the end of the Term to book in for a Parent/Teacher Conference. More detailed information about both of these elements will be sent home shortly.
School has been undertaking some repairs and upgrades to the plumbing outside the Admin Building that has required the walkway from the Loatta Gate to the ECE Courtyard to be blocked off. I appreciate the inconvenience this causes for students and parents, and I appreciate the support that has been shown by all. The works are drawing towards an end and will hopefully not continue too much longer. Thanks again for everyone’s patience on this.
Our Launch Into Learning Program is now able to run on-site again. This is exciting news and Miss Purdie and Ms Brown are running sessions at school every Friday Morning. Bookings are essential for these but there are spaces available. If you would like further information, please feel free to contact Miss Purdie or Ms Brown and booking information is on the School’s Facebook page and further details are within this newsletter.
Kind regards,
Our students have been enjoying their lunchtimes with some additional games and play ideas.
Thank you to everyone that supported our Go Green for the JackJumpers day, hosted by the Student Representative Council (SRC).
On Wednesday, 18 May, the SRC held a Free Dress Day to show our support for children impacted by the war in Ukraine. Thank you everyone for your wonderful support. We raised $560.65 for UNICEF.
Your child will have the opportunity to experience Bravehearts’ Personal Safety Education Program, Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show on Wednesday, 25 May.
Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure show has been educating Australian children since 2006, providing them with personal safety tools and strategies, while supporting positive self-esteem and resilience building.
If you do not wish for your child to participate in the Ditto program, please notify your child’s teacher or the office.
Our Grade 3-6 School Cross Country Carnival will be held on Thursday, 26th May, from 9-11am on Loatta Oval.
Races will not be timed as placings will enable us to form our interschool team.
Students are encouraged to dress up in their house colours to get into the team spirit. Students should also bring plenty of water to drink and warm clothes to wear when not racing.
Unfortunately, parents are unable to attend but we look forward to sharing photos with our school community throughout the day.
WINTER SPORTS FOOTBALL/NETBALL
Our Winter Sports will start next week on Wednesday, 25 May. The Grade 5/6 students will have their first games of football and netball at Bellerive Primary school. Letters have been circulated to these children with further details.
Congratulations to our students heading off to the Champions Carnival to be held on Friday, 27 May at the Domain Athletic Centre. Letters have been circulated to these children. Can we please have their completed Transport and Consent Form returned ASAP, if you have not already done so.

THE PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE
The Premier's Reading Challenge has officially started!
This year, the challenge begins on Monday 2nd May and ends on Friday 8th July. Students record the books they have read using the log books, which were distributed last Wednesday. A returns box for completed log books will be located in the library, along with spare log books if extras are needed.
About the Challenge:
The Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) challenges students from Prep to Year 6 to make reading a fun part of their day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. This can be integrated with existing classroom reading programs. Students can negotiate with their teacher to have a large chapter book counted as being more than one book. Whilst reading 10 books means the student has completed the Challenge, they can read more. All Prep-Grade 6 students have been registered to participate.
All Students participating in the Challenge:
- Receive a PRC bookmark
- Go in the weekly draw to win a school visit from Hawka.
- There are 10 to be won, 1 for each week of the challenge.
All students completing the Challenge:
- Receive a certificate from the Premier.
- Go in the draw to win a $100 book voucher.
- There are 3 to be won; 1 prize for each region.
Happy reading eveyone!
We have two main channels of communication here at LPS, Schoolzine and Seesaw. Schoolzine is where we issue things like this newsletter, important information relating to COVID and other essential communications that need your actions or attention.
Seesaw is an important communication tool that all of our teachers use to interact and share learning with families. We encourage parents to interact with staff through this portal and talk with you children about what we have shared. This is monitored during school hours. Please ensure you obtain the QR code from your children’s teacher and sign up to receive regular updates on their learning and photos of them engaging in lots of different activities.
If you have any urgent information that you need to give your children, the teacher or the office please call 6243 9262 as email communication can not be guaranteed with a prompt response.
If you would like to purchase an Entertainment Book, the school receives $14 for every purchase. Follow the link below to do so.

QKR! ONLINE CANTEEN ORDERING
Bambini Bites works in association with CBA Bank/Mastercard and uses their online school canteen ordering system for the convenience of schools, parents and students called QKR! which can be downloaded to all Apple phones/IPAD’s and Android devices.
