Hello, and welcome back to what’s already shaping up to be an exciting and new school year! I would officially like to welcome our new families to the school - we have seven new families joining us this year, along with 53 new Kinder students! With this we welcome four new staff members. Mrs Lucy Morgan joins us in Kinder Possums. Miss Sophie Barwick joins us on Grade 2B, as well as in a senior staff capacity. Mr Russell Smith joins us in Grade 3B on Fridays and Mrs Beth Vince has begun as our new Assistant Principal.
It has been so lovely reconnecting with the students and families and I look forward to seeing you all at our official Welcome BBQ/Meet and Greet on Wednesday next week. Please see the timetable below for class times and details:
As a school we value children as strong, capable, competent and resilient, rich with wonder and knowledge. We recognise that every child brings with them deep curiosity and potential, and this innate curiosity drives their interest to understand their world and their place within it. The RTL initiative involves our staff undertaking regular professional learning that is focussed on strengthening quality practice in the early years.
You may notice changes that include:
- Re-organisation of classroom environments both inside and outside
- New ways of sharing/recording your child’s learning
- Play and inquiry approaches being embedded in practice to extend children’s learning experiences and achievements
- Educators exploring new approaches to teaching and learning
We look forward to sharing with you our ongoing learnings and are excited about strengthening our knowledge of quality practice in the early years. Please do not hesitate to talk with your child’s teacher for further information.
Our Primary staff have also been very busy undertaking some Action Research into the following whole school approaches:
- Behaviour Management Policy
- Outside Learning spaces
- Communication to parents
- Student waste warriors/Green team
- Kitchen Garden
This process involves finding research and best practice into these areas, and making recommendations to the senior staff team to help prioritise strategies and resources for whole school improvement. This may involve us seeking input, support and resources from our parents and the community so I will keep you posted about how these are progressing throughout the year.
Kind regards,
Kel Innis
This year, to make it easier for parents and carers to plan around work, we have scheduled our assemblies and presenting classes right up until November. Please see the table below for this year’s assembly dates. Music and Art performances will be advertised closer to their assembly dates. Note the change of day to FRIDAYS. Assembly will still begin at 2pm in the GP room.
This year's Athletics Carnival is on Tuesday 26th February. Kinder to Grade 2 will participate from 9am until 11am, then Grades 3 to 6 will compete from 11:30am onwards. A program of events will be available closer to the date.
We always appreciate volunteers to help ensure that the events run smoothly and on time. If you can spare some time on the day, please let the office know!
Adele and Sebastian: Inspiring us to take an adventure!
Adele and Sebastian had their boats in the Australian Wooden Boat Festival, held from Friday the 8th of February to the 11th of February, at the Hobart waterfront.
Sebastian’s boat is a Mirror dinghy, called Leatherwood. It can be rowed or sailed. He has done a lot of work on it. When he got it, it leaked badly. He has sanded it back to the wood, epoxied the crack, and repainted it. He has used it in a number of places including the River Derwent, Bruny Island and the d’Entrecasteaux Channel. He has had it for approximately 2years.
Adele’s boat, Carrot, was built by Adele and her dad Tim about 1 1/2 years ago. It is made out of a sheet of plywood and some framing timbers. Adele used the battery drill, jigsaw and exterior glue to build her boat. She paddles it with a kayak paddle on flat water. She has used it in places such as Stewart’s Bay Tasman Peninsular, River Derwent and the d’Entrecasteaux Channel.
Our canteen is up and running for 2019, and will again be open on Thursdays and Fridays only.
This year, lunch orders must be placed via the Qkr! app. Cash sales will be accepted for counter sales only.
Term 1 menu is shown below. You may have noticed an increase in some of our prices. This is due to supplier increases and is unavoidable if we'd like the canteen to remain a viable option for lunches. We thank you for your understanding.
If you are able to volunteer any time in the canteen this year, please let the office staff know.
The first School Association meeting for 2019 will be held on Wednesday 27th Feb in the Library from 7pm. We welcome new faces and fresh ideas!
The School Association will be serving up the BBQ at the Meet and Greet evening next week, so come up and say hi and have a chat if you'd like to know more about what we do!
Parents and carers are reminded to park considerately and legally. Illegal parking, especially around school zones, is unsafe and causes traffic to bank up. Parking inspectors will be doing random checks around our school to ensure safe and considerate parking.
Book Club Issue #1 was sent home with students on Wednesday. Please place any orders/ return cash orders to school by 3pm on Thursday 28th Feb. We earn fantastic rewards from Scholastic for every order, and these are used for purchasing the 100+ Night Reading rewards for students to encourage and nurture a love of reading.
Student banking is on Wednesdays again this year and our new banking co-ordinator, Jenny, would love some help to process deposits each week. If you can spare an hour on a Wednesday morning to come into the office and help out, please let the office staff know.
Many thanks to Mandy Ibbott, who has been the "Banking Lady" for quite a few years now.
The current rewards for 10 deposits are listed below:
Our Breezeway has a new name: "The Gallery".
Mrs Bloomfield has had a wonderful time encouraging and guiding our young artists to make these colourful works of art.
Take a wander through the ever-changing Gallery next time you're at the school!
Clarence Children Services now offer Before School Care at Lindisfarne Primary, as well as their regular After School Care program.
Please email children@ccc.tas.gov.au for further information, or visit their website here:
SCHOOL LEVIES
Thank you to all our families who have paid their 2019 levies.
Preferred method of payment is BPay, however, levies can be paid by cash or EFTPOS at the school office.
Payment options are located on the back of your Invoice and statements are issued by the Department of Education monthly.
Payment Plans can be arranged if necessary.
We would appreciate it if all levies can be finalised by end of Term 1 as this will help in the planning of our Students learning programs.
STUDENT VALIDATION FORMS
Please return your child’s validation form to the school office asap.
Students will not be able to go on excursions until their form has been returned.
